Below is the list of important recognised and prestigious examinations conducted for students in primary and secondary level. Participation in these exams is through institution only and no individual registration is permitted.

NMTC (Class 5 - 12)

National Mathematics Talent Contest (NMTC) organised by Association Of Mathematics Teachers Of India (AMTI) for Students from Schools, Junior Colleges of all boards, Degree Colleges and Technical Institutions in India.

1. 1. Primary -Gauss Contest V and VI Standards
   2. Sub-Junior -Kaprekar Contest VII and VIII Standards
   3. Junior -Bhaskara Contest IX and X Standards
   4. Inter -Ramanujan Contest XI and XII Standards
   5. Senior -Aryabhata Contest Degree Classes in Arts, Science & Technical Institutions

IMO (Class 8-12)

International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is is managed by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) in collaboration with the National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM). It has multiple stage culminating in participation in IMO at international location with global competition.

Students of class 8 to 12 are eligible for the examination. Various steps in selection process are as follows.

1. Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Mathematics(IOQM) (Previously PRMO)
2. Regional Mathematical Olympiad (RMO)
3. Indian National Mathematical Olympiad Training Camps (INMOTC) at regional levels
4. Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO) + last year awardees
5. International Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp (IMOTC) held at HBCSE
6. IMO

IO (Class 8-10)

International Olympiad (IO) is a valuable opportunity for Class 8, 9 and 10 students to advance in science, with the chance to represent India in the International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO). Various stages are as follows.

1. National Standard Examinations (NSEs) in Physics, Chemistry, Biology,Astronomy, Junior Science organized by IAPT
2. INJSO
3. Indian National Olympiad (INO) by HBCSE for later stages
4. Orientation Cum Selection Camps (OCSC)
5. International Olympiad (IO) 

NTSE (Class 10)

The National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) is one of India's most prestigious scholarship exams, organised by the National Council of Educational Research and Training. Its aim is to identify and reward talented 10th-grade students nationwide and support their further education by providing them scholarhips. NTSE is conducted for Class 10 students.

Aryabhatta National Maths Competition (Class 4-12)

Aryabhatta National Maths Competition is jointly organized by All India Council For Technical Skill Development (AICTSD) and IIT Bombay Alumni. Any school student from class 4 - 12 and any college student (Age 10-24) can apply for the ANMC 2025. It has qualifier and then online interview for the exam.

NSE (Class 5-12)

National Scholarship Exam (NSE) is conducted by NICE Foundation at National Level in all over India. In which students from Std. 5th To 12th and Degree / Diploma Students can participate from any board and university. Individual applications are also allowed.

It is one of the more comprehensive examination covering more scope as compared to other targeted examiantions. The equivalent exam conducted by Maharashtra board is Middle school Scholarship examiantion and also very prestigious examiantion. Subjects covered are Mathematics & General Science, General Knowledge, Reasoning & Analytical and Comprehension.

Examinations conducted by other organisations

The list below includes various other organisations conducting examinations. These may have recognition across multiple countries. However, these appear to be private or commercial organisations conducting examinations. As participation by individual is allowed in these examinations, these are some good allternatives for the above mentioned prestigious examinations. These exams are generally conducted for all classes i.e. Class 1-10.

SOF

Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) organises various olympiad examinations for students in classes 1-12 . Registration is through school only.

IPM

All India Open Mathematics Scholarship Examination conducted by Institute for Promotion of Mathematics for class 2 to 9. Happens in two stages 1. Final and 2. Mega Final

Unified Counsil

UF carries out various examinations equivalent to above exams with option of private participation. All exams are from class 1 to 10.

1. National Level Science Talent Search Examination (NSTSE) is a diagnostic test which helps students improve their overall learning ability and educational performance. It is designed to test the fundamental strength of a student assessment of scholastic skills is mainly on Mathematics and Science. Can be participated individually here .
2. Unified International Mathematics Olympiad (UIMO) s a curriculum-based examination but thorugh school only.
3. Unified International English Olympiad (UIEO) is through schools only.

My personal assessment

NMTC *****

The best one in mathematics is NMTC. Its question paper level is simply fantastic. The examination is very difficult and challenges the students in every way possible. Preparation will take at least 4-6 months and lots of practice. Negative marking is there so one needs to be accurate. Allen class previous question papers are available and Allen Pune conducts classes as well as provides registration for the examination in individual capacity, as only school registrations are allowed. This is mother of all mathematical examinations and preparing for this will prepare you for all the other examinations.

IPM ****

This is good examination for Mathematics. Individual registrations are allowed. Recommended.

Unicus

They have summer and winter schedule. The winter schedule (Dec - Jan) is based on current class syllabus and is global competition with MES subjects. The summer schedule has MES and additionally Critical thinking, and GK.

Question paper quality is good and recommended.
